Rejuvenate with your own platelet rich plasma

PRP Facial

WHAT IS PRP THERAPY?

PRP (or Platelet Rich Plasma) Therapy is an aesthetic non-surgical anti-aging treatment that uses enriched platelet rich plasma (an agent of healing and cell regeneration in the body) from your own blood to rejuvenate and revitalize the skin. It is able to do this by stimulating new cell and collagen growth in targeted areas, thereby effectively and naturally improving your complexion and giving you a lovely glow.

WHAT CAN PRP THERAPY TREAT?

PRP Therapy is mostly utilized in the facial region. In theory it is possible to perform PRP on other areas of the body, but the crux of this natural regenerative power is well-utilized as a facial anti-aging treatment. Further, this treatment is safe and effective for all skin types!

WHY PRP THERAPY AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

During PRP Therapy, the plasma from your blood is extracted as a rejuvenating serum and reintroduced into the body. Blood will be drawn by one of our aesthetic medical professionals, and then centrifuged to separate the precious concentrated plasma from your red blood cells. Then, this serum will be administered in the skin either via microneedling or injection

If clients select PRP with Microneedling, your skin will be microneedled in order to create exposed wounds to allow the serum to penetrate the dermis. At various depths of wounding, the plasma will be rubbed into your skin. The result is optimum skin texture and maximum collagen regeneration.

If clients select PRP with Injection, then the serum will be deposited into a sterile syringe, and injected in targeted areas (usually areas in the mid and lower face) as if it was a dermal filler. This too will result in in collagen regeneration, improvement of skin texture, and smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM PRP THERAPY TREATMENT?

It is comforting to know what to expect with a treatment that includes needles, so we have detailed pre- and post- treatment instructions below so our clients can come into their appointments confident and ready.

It is highly recommended to consult with one of our aesthetic professionals here at Lavande prior to booking your laser skin resurfacing appointment, where a personal evaluation synthesizing your medical history and aesthetic goals should be completed. This is to determine the best course of action for your aesthetic needs, determine what treatment is best for your skin type, and to prepare you for your what is to come. We here at Lavande want to make sure you are a candidate for this treatment as well as confident about your decision to proceed.

In preparation, we will ask that you abstain from taking bloodthinners or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as alcoholic drinks, Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Fish Oil, Vitamin E, and others) starting a couple days before treatment to lower the risk of mid- and post-procedure bleeding (keeping in mind that we are both drawing blood, and treating the skin via techniques that produce pinpoint bleeding). We want this process to go smoothly for both you and our providers.

The treatment area will be examined by our skilled and knowledgeable practitioner before treatment, and private “before” pictures will be taken for comparison purposes and kept in your profile. Once examined, the treatment area will be prepared by being cleaned with antiseptics, and a topical BLT (Benzocaine, Lidocaine, Tetracaine) numbing agent will be applied to sit for 30 minutes. During this numbing time, vials of your blood will be drawn and centrifuged in preparation for the PRP Therapy.

During treatment, our provider will begin by determining the most strategic treatment plan that will adhere to your aesthetic goals and needs. Next, our medical professional will begin to reintroduce the PRP into your body via either microneedling or injection.
Finally, finishing products such as a soothing creme and hyaluronic acid will be rubbed into the skin. In total, the treatment should take about 60 minutes.
Recovery time following PRP Therapy depends on whether treatment was performed via microneedling or injection.
If treatment was done via injection, then recovery can take anywhere from a day to a week. Most people can resume daily activities, although they might have slight swelling immediately following treatment. Some clients develop bruises after about a day, and this can take anywhere from 3 days up to 5 days to subside.
If treatment was done via microneedling, then recovery can take 3 days to a week. It is recommended to exfoliate the skin towards the end of the recovery process when the skin is not as sensitive, in order to smooth away peeling skin.
For the first few days, it is generally recommended to avoid exposure to sunlight and high temperatures, and also to abstain from strenuous exercise and drinking alcohol, in order to evade any increase in redness, itching, swelling, and other side effects.

WHEN WILL I SEE TREATMENT RESULTS?

Clients will have to be patient through the recovery process before seeing results. If microneedled, clients will see the full results of any given treatment about 4 weeks post treatment, as this is the amount of time necessary for the superficial wounds to heal and fresh collagen to be produced. If injected, it will still take about 4 weeks to see the ultimate results following collagen regeneration. Clients will see adequate results after a single session, but results will be dramatically improved after the second or third session. Treatments should be performed at least 4 weeks apart.

HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?

Some studies were able to show that clients continued to enjoy improvements from PRP Therapy for up to 6 months post treatment. Further, clients will be able to enjoy the benefits of new elastin and collagen long-term, but it will not be permanent. The reason is that your skin will continue to age and eventually resort back to its original state; thus, maintenance treatments, and a good skin regimen including sun protection and anti-aging cremes are highly recommended in order to get the most out of your treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

PRP Therapy is conducted with a series of needles (beginning when blood is drawn, and then treatment via either microneedling or injection), and therefore there is naturally some discomfort involved.

Due to the known discomfort associated with both microneedling and facial dermal injection, our providers provide a topical anesthetic prior to treatment and a cold pack post treatment to make it as comfortable of an experience as possible.

Preparation includes avoiding bloodthinners. These precautions will ensure that the recovery process is smooth and devoid of unwelcome side effects.

Clients will be able to resume daily activities immediately following treatment, but recovery time can take up to a week. There will be redness and inflammation of treatment areas post treatment, and clients should plan accordingly.

For the first few days, it is generally recommended to avoid exposure to sunlight and high temperatures, and also to abstain from strenuous exercise and drinking alcohol, in order to evade any increase in redness, itching, swelling, and other side effects.

It is highly recommended to have multiple treatments, about 3-4, to attain optimal results. While a single session will impart great results, most clients will not have met their aesthetic goals with just a single session.

Our knowledgeable providers here at Lavande Spa can sit down with you and create a regimen that is right for you in order to make sure you achieve and maintain that flawless skin you’re looking for.

The best part about this treatment is that because PRP from your own body is being used to treat it, the material and your body are fully compatible. However, there will still be side effects from the microneedling or injection methods of administering PRP. Most side effects will be moderate or mild, and should last no more than a week or two. Side effects such as tenderness, redness, swelling, inflammation, peeling, and bruising are expected.
