Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Microneedling is a collagen induction therapy that takes advantage of the fortifying power of the body’s natural healing mechanism for purposes of rejuvenation.

WHAT IS RF MICRONEEDLING?

RF Microneedling, similar to regular Mironeedling, is a collagen induction therapy. The difference lies in the fact that while being treated by the advanced technology of RF Microneedling, additional benefits are imparted to the skin via radio frequency.

RF Microneedling combines the classic procedure with radio frequency heat energy to amplify collagen and elastin production. Heat will be delivered into the dermis between the fine needles for deeper and more robust stimulation of rejuvenating processes.

WHY MICRONEEDLING AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Microneedling is an organic process that noticeably reduces the appearance of skin imperfections. It is able to stimulate the cells that produce collagen/elastin by superficially wounding and micro-injuring damaged skin with multiple fine needles that penetrate the skin at controlled depths. As your skin heals, your skin will tighten and your blemishes will fade away. The injuries created in the skin are controlled, and will be inflicted by our skilled practitioners so as to induce desirable results.

WHAT CAN MICRONEEDLING TREAT?

Microneedling can smoothen your skin and give it a flawless texture by treating scarring, curing fine lines and wrinkles, reducing pore size, remedying stretch marks, and other skin irregularities. Further, it is safe and effective for all skin types.

But wait, theres more! There are many added benefits when radio frequency energy is added as a booster to the treatment. In addition to improving skin texture, softening scarring, and minimizing pores and wrinkles, the added RF allows for tightening of skin, and circulation improvement for a more youthful look.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT?

It is comforting to know what to expect with a treatment that includes an intense and deeply pentrating laser, so we have detailed pre- and post- treatment instructions below so our clients can come into their appointments confident and ready.

It is highly recommended to consult with one of our aesthetic professionals here at Lavande prior to booking your laser skin resurfacing appointment, where a personal evaluation synthesizing your medical history and aesthetic goals should be completed. This is to determine the best course of action for your aesthetic needs, determine what treatment is best for your skin type, and to prepare you for your what is to come. We here at Lavande want to make sure you are a candidate for this treatment as well as confident about your decision to proceed.

In preparation, we may ask that you abstain from taking or applying any harsh medications (such as Accutane or Retinol), so as to avoid the occurrence of poor healing, pigmentation, or scarring from laser treatment. We may also ask that you abstain from taking bloodthinners or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as alcoholic drinks, Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Fish Oil, Vitamin E, and others) to lower the risk of post-procedure bleeding. We will also ask that you refrain from getting direct sun exposure for about a week prior to treatment.

The treatment area will be examined by our skilled and knowledgeable practitioner before treatment, and private “before” pictures will be taken for comparison purposes and kept in your profile. Once examined, the treatment area will be prepared by being cleaned with antiseptics, and a topical BLT (Benzocaine, Lidocaine, Tetracaine) numbing agent will be applied to sit for 30 minutes.

During treatment, our provider will begin by determining the most strategic treatment plan that will adhere to your aesthetic goals and needs. After the numbing cream is cleaned off the surface of the skin, a serum will be applied so as to allow for the Microneedling device to smoothly glide over the skin. Next, our provider will begin to gently roll the Microneedling device over targeted treatment areas, stopping to occasionally observe progress and adjust positioning of the device. 2-3 passes will be made over the skin for regular Microneedling, and 1 pass will be made over the skin for RF Microneedling.
Finally, finishing products and soothing serums will be applied to the skin in order to minimize pain, swelling, and the appearance of irritation. In total, the treatment should take about 1 hour, including numbing time.
Recovery time following Microneedling treatment can be anywhere from 4 days to 1 week. The deeper depths within the dermis that the needles penetrate, the longer the recovery. Clients must undergo proper skincare precautions following treatment until the skin fully heals. For the first 2 or so days, only water and a very mild cleanser should be used to wash the treatment area (beginning 6 hours after treatment). After 3 days to a week, your normal skincare regimen may be resumed. The healing process will likely include skin peeling, which is quite normal. When the peeling begins, it is recommended to lightly exfoliate the skin the smooth away the peeling skin.
For the first few days, it is generally recommended to avoid exposure to sunlight and high temperatures (while applying strong SPF when going out), and also to abstain from strenuous exercise and drinking alcohol, in order to evade any increase in redness, itching, swelling, and other side effects. Immediately following treatment there will likely be redness and inflammation of the skin which should dissipate within 24-48 hours.

WHEN WILL I SEE TREATMENT RESULTS?

Clients will have to be patient through the recovery process before seeing full results. While the healing process should be completed within a week following treatment, clients will no see the full results of any given treatment until about about 4 weeks post treatment. This is the amount of time necessary for fresh collagen and elastin to be produced. It is a slow, but effective, process.

HOW LONG WILL MY RESULTS LAST?

Studies have shown that clients enjoyed new elastin and collagen benefits as well as consistent improvement of skin ailments for up to 6 months after treatment. It should be noted, however, the skin is constantly being exposed to the same conditions that it was prior, so the process of damaging and aging will continue. Therefore, multiple sessions are recommended for purposes of maintenance and upholding your enhanced beauty. Further, a good skin regimen including sun protection and anti-aging cremes are highly recommended in order to get the most out of your treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Our professional practitioners seek pinpoint bleeding in order to ensure that they are providing an effective treatment at an adequate depth for clients, so there will naturally be some pain and discomfort associated with Microneedling.

Due to the known discomfort associated with the microscopic wounding of fine needles penetrating the dermis, our providers provide a topical anesthetic prior to treatment and and apply soothing products after treatment. With numbing cream and soothing creams, the treatment is quite tolerable.

Preparation includes avoiding direct sun exposure for a week or 2 prior to treatment, abstaining from taking or applying harsh products (such as Accutane or Retinol), and avoiding bloodthinners. These precautions will ensure that the recovery process is smooth and devoid of unwelcome side effects such as bleeding or scarring.

Clients will be able to resume daily activities almost immediately following treatment, but recovery time can take up to a week and precautions should be taken to avoid the aggravation of skin irritation. There will be redness and inflammation of treatment areas post treatment, and clients should plan accordingly.

Clients should actively avoid direct sun exposure, and be sure to apply a strong sunscreen at all times. Makeup can be applied to mask redness the day after treatment, if skin is not too sensitive.

It is highly recommended to have multiple treatments to attain optimal results. While a single session will impart great results, most clients have not met their aesthetic goals with just a single session.

Our knowledgeable providers here at Lavande Spa can sit down with you and create a regimen that is right for you in order to make sure you achieve and maintain that flawless skin you’re looking for.

Side effects may or may not be experienced following Microneedling treatment, but are not abnormal. Normal side effects include redness, slight swelling, inflammation, skin irritation, and peeling. Less common, but still expected side effects include scarring and infection. Please contact us here at Lavande Spa if you have any concerns about side effects.
